Monday, August 24 - Interview: Another Fine Day

Another Fine Day put out his first album in 1994, his second in 2000 and now has a new CD called A Good Place to Be. It’s a meeting ground of Bill Evans and Miles Davis dripped through an Enoesque haze. From his studio, Tom Green talks about his music and his Array mbira, a modern take on the African thumb piano.

Tuesday, August 25 - A Living Room Concert with Kristin Hoffmann

Kristin Hoffmann’s music has been called “Ethereal Renaissance Pop” and she’s been recording it for most of this millennium. She comes into Echoes and sits at an acoustic piano for an intimate performance of her songs including a rare performance of “Let Go” for just voice and piano.

Wednesday, August 26 - Living Room Concert with Angela Sheik

Angela Sheik is an idiosyncratic singer building her sound on looping instrumental patterns and a wild voice that has drawn comparisons to Kate Bush. She recently released the album, Home Before Dark. Angela Sheik comes in with keyboards, flute, and looping pedals to play her music live on Echoes.

Thursday, August 27 - Interview: Wu Man

Wu Man plays the Pipa, a Chinese lute known for its light, pastoral sound. She’s often found playing new music with it, collaborating with explorers such as the Kronos Quartet on a composition by Terry Riley. We caught up with her at the Big Ears Festival this past March where she talked about her remarkable life from the cultural revolution to music revolution.

Echoes Top 25 for July 2015

Glider

It’s an eclectic Echoes Top 25 for July with Heather Woods Broderick’s gorgeous album, Glider, our CD of the Month, at the top. Jean-Michel Jarre’s E-Project is also there and that album doesn’t even come out until October. I’m very excited to see Silencio in there at #3. This band includes former members of The Mandrake Project out of Pittsburgh. With Silencio, they create music inspired by director David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti of Twin Peaks and other fame. Go down to #10 and you’ll see our Echoes CD of the Month for August, sure to be the future number one album.
